It really feels like the Baret Family has come home...

Our family has a lot of history in Little Bay...

Trevor is the third generation Baret man to have lived on the grounds of the Prince Henry Hospital site. The hospital used to be called the "Coast Hospital" when my grandfather was the Director of Medicine here.

It was in those days that Dr Henri Victor Davide Baret, and his wife Elizabeth had their second son, Kenneth Maxwell Baret - my dad...

Henri served as Seniour Medical Officer, and General Medical Superintendant during Dad's childhood and early teenage years. Henri is remembered with a plaque adjacent to the chapel (see the slideshow below). Elizabeth was a highly regarded nursing sister, and supported her husband in his ground-breaking medical research, as well as raising their three young children.

The first son, Henri, became a doctor, then Psychiatrist, and the daughter, Kathlene, became a nurse.

Dad lived on the grounds of the hospital, in one of the cottages, for a significant part of his childhood. He learned to swim in the bay; he learned to fish from the rocks - particularly "Doctors Rock" (another story is centred on that rock later); he learned to play golf on what was then called the "Doctors' Golf Course" now known as "The Coast Golf Course". This time at "The Coast" shaped much of Ken's life, and resulted in many influences over the lives of his children, Lyn and Trevor.

Ken followed a different path to his older brother and sister, influenced by his love of the water and water sports, as well as the family trait of choosing a vocation invovled in directly helping people. Ken worked in the NSW Police force (reaching the very high rank of Seniour Superintendant), and spent the rest of his time involved in the Surf Life Saving Association
